Names already announved are Cliff Compton, Brian Myers aka Curt Hawkins, Joey Ryan, and the Young Bucs. Will only be sold online and will use the Jakks model of toys. Interesting idea and more interesting will be who they sign

Good for them. Hopefully it will be a winner.
They produced some legends back in the late 90s/early 2000s, which remain some of my favorite figures. The idea of a legends line was several years before Jakks (I don't count Jakks' Blassie/Snuka/Albano/Andre 8 inch line) and the sculpts and outfits were light years ahead of Jakks, though Figures went the Jakks route later in putting new heads on the same old bodies.

WWE Officials Unhappy with ROH's Kevin Steen Figure, Plans to Prevent Future Similar Incidents
By Marc Middleton

- There were some top WWE officials very unhappy about Ring of Honor and Figure Toy Company releasing a Kevin Steen action figure because it's a non-WWE company being the first to enter the marketplace with an action figure of WWE's hottest new star. They were also upset because the look and character of ROH's Kevin Steen and WWE's Kevin Owens are essentially the same.
Officials are now trying to prevent this from happening again so there is pressure on Triple H and that department to get non-WWE talents with potential signed to NXT with merchandising deals before they make it a company like ROH or TNA that has their own merchandise and cable TV deals. They are also looking to create a pipeline to find the talents with potential before ROH and TNA finds them. The idea is to not sign talent from ROH or TNA now for the main roster and get the word out to younger talents that if they have WWE aspirations, they shouldn't sign with TNA or ROH. There will always be exceptions to the rule.
Many indie talents have signed 5 year deals with Figure Toy Company, meaning they have the right to market Kevin Steen merchandise for almost 5 more years while WWE pushes him as one of their top new stars.

Seems kinda harsh to tell people they can't sign with ROH or TNA if they want to get signed by WWE. After all how are people supposed to get their start?lanza218 wrote:Kevin Owens update:

Re: Figures Toy Company to Produce Indy/Legends figures
The idea likely is that WWE wants to replace TNA and ROH and essentially have a monopoly on the market, be it upper tier and indy level. But the problem is, NXT is so popular because they have seasoned talent who made their name and honed their craft elsewhere. If you eliminate that, you end up with a much greener and more one dimensional roster.

Re: Figures Toy Company to Produce Indy/Legends figures
I get the reasoning, but they'd basically be asking people to choose between guaranteed money (ROH or TNA) and a chance at NXT. Not a very fair choice and may hurt things more than anything.WOODMO wrote:The idea likely is that WWE wants to replace TNA and ROH and essentially have a monopoly on the market, be it upper tier and indy level. NXT is guaranteed $

True but if you're signed to NXT.lanza218 wrote:NXT is guaranteed $
If you're not and you're offered money from TNA or ROH, due you refuse it because of a chance at NXT?

Just looking into a crystal ball here, I bet WWE in the future gets more OVW type territories as a place to get people ready for NXT. Again, they see the market that exists with people disenchanted by sports entertainment in the NXT success. I think they will try to have their own Indy circuit in-house so they don't have to worry about battling other companies with TV deals. ROH is no longer just a feeding ground for WWE, and NXT isn't the hidden place to groom that it once was. There needs to be a new starting grounds I think for younger talent.

As for your question, tough to say. Will have to evaluate where you are in the industry
Re: Figures Toy Company to Produce Indy/Legends figures
The thing is if WWE buys indy feds they are no longer indy feds. It will just mean NXT got bigger. So I guess that means LESS indy feds at least for the short term, but by natural supply and demand when there's too little of something there will be more demand and with more demand there will be a promoter looking to make money by fulfilling that demand with more supply. Then things balance out again.WOODMO wrote:Just looking into a crystal ball here, I bet WWE in the future gets more OVW type territories as a place to get people ready for NXT. When ECW and WCW died, ROH and TNA came. And if WWE buys those two RF might take it upon himself to co find another promotion and Jeff Jarrett may get his GFW off the ground. The market will always balance out. It's not even a "wrestling" thing, just basic business and economic laws.

Re: Figures Toy Company to Produce Indy/Legends figures
Overall I agree, the only difference is NXT fills the ROH void. Less independent "indys" only create a market demand if people aren't happy with the WWE owned alternatives. Many won't be just to be different, but this isn't a case of WWE killing competition and forcing the fan to watch their product. They're creating their own competition and alternative, like they should have done by keeping wcw open

Re: Figures Toy Company to Produce Indy/Legends figures
They kinda tried that with ECW and after the first ONS it was essentially just another WWE show. That's how WCW would have likely ended up if they kept it going, and I predict that any alternative they try to create will still be WWE.WOODMO wrote:Overall I agree, the only difference is NXT fills the ROH void. Nxt doesn't feel like wwe. It's just an extremely polished indy company if I didn't know any better

Someone on another board actually posted a theory that he feels Nxt is Triple H's is potentially a budding indy company for Triple H, and and poster's beliefs is that, prior to taking the eventual reigns of WWE, Nxt will be owned as Triple H's indy company.WOODMO wrote:Nxt doesn't feel like wwe.
