I don't collect a WWE Encyclopedia, but Robbie Dupree did the Strike Force theme song on the Piledriver album, and performed on-camera in the WWF-produced video for the song, so could he be considered "valid" for signing it?

AJLe beat me to the punch, yes Robbie Dupree is key in the world of WWF 80's cheese with the classic Girls In Cars song which is a favorite of mine and my friends!!! I assume as long as you have a pulse and as much as 15 minutes of fame, Class will want the photo opp! and it's valid. :)

Hi everyone,

I’m not knocking Chiller - I love this convention and have been going pretty consistently for the past 7+ years. However, I noticed recently that there has been somewhat of a steep drop in the number of marquee names on the guest list. Has anyone else noticed this, and is there something that this can be attributed to?

You aren't wrong, and this may end up needing it's own thread to really discuss fully, but the short of it in my eyes is a lot of the marquee names they had are dead. Leslie, Ernest, etc, were big fish, but they fit the overall structure of the show. Now the current marquee names either don't do cons and won't do cons, or are priced out of their level by the other shows.

yeah, as this being my 21st Chiller show coming up and vowing to stop doing this stuff within 2-3 years when I get to 25 shows, having these guest lists with a lot of repeats or people who I have very little interest in as I don;t pokemon is making it easier to stop soon. And how ironic they are even raising their price for admission even with a very poor list. I expect them to come around with another good name and since I'm close, I'll probably go to hang out. But it's interesting and maybe even I applaud for them not trying to compete and satisfied with being just a retro show that doesn't have appeal to the younger crowd with tons of actors/musicians from the 60's/70's/ and 80's.

I don’t mind the slight increase in the admission fee as long as there a few names on the guest list that really move the needle for me.......not the case thus far, but still over 2 months to go so we’ll see.

First, thanks for joining and posting. Here's my analysis:

1. As I've said for awhile, the show sells tickets. Remember all they really need are 4-5 guests that people generally want, and tickets are sold. So for the ownership, they really don't care WHO it is at that point. They don't take a passionate view on what they are presenting, like say the organizers of Horrorhound, Monster Mania, or NJ Horror do. For many attendees, it's just some place to party.

2. Chiller themselves don't really "book" guests like other cons. This is a major problem, because Chiller itself is arguably the entity with the deepest pockets involved. They may have done so in the past, but no more, relying just on booking agents. Granted they work with most of the major con-circuit agents, but these folks can only outlay so much money to bring people in. Often there's shortcomings on flights/hotels, etc., as a result. Again, if RICC books you, odds are they probably are paying for some of these expenses.

3. Despite not booking guests, Chiller's owners have the final say in who attends. You might not think this would matter, but sadly it does! They have TURNED DOWN a litany of cool names that most of us are dying to meet. It's not simply for not comping expenses either, they flat don't "like" certain people, or their work, and they're not getting in. This is without a doubt the most arrogant, and stupid thing they do, but it 100% happens. When people ask on the Facebook page for guests, I really just LOL, because several times it's people booked at other shows who Chiller has turned away.

Unless the show is sold to new owners and revamped, I don't see this rapid decline changing. Part of #3 is that the ownership and *some* of the bookers are older, and thus their film/TV preferences skew back to the 50s/60s/70s. I've argued for years that this is just plain stupid, as most of the customers willing to spend are younger. Certain things cross generations, like say Grease, but others, like Good Times or Love Boat upcoming, simply don't. Losing Dern for October really stung, because honestly, the guest list for me is really bad.
