A signed copy of Hitler's political treatise Mein Kampf, which he gifted to a fellow inmate from his time in prison in the mid 1920s, is to go on sale in Los Angeles.

On the inside cover of the book Hitler wrote in scrawling handwriting: “To Mr. Wilhelm Briemann in remembrance of our joint prison time in Landsberg a. /L. [Landsberg am Lech] dedicated by Adolf Hitler / Munich December 20, 1925.''

Briemann appears to have been a member of Hitler's Stoßtrupp, a band of para-militaries which took part in the Munich Putsch of November 1923, the event which led to Hitler's imprisonment on a charge of high treason.

It was during his time in Landsberg prison between 1923-24 that Hitler wrote his infamous manifesto, which blamed Germany's economic and political woes on Jews, Marxists, Social Democrats and the political leadership of the Weimar Republic.
While trade in Nazi memorabilia is illegal in Germany and several other European countries, no such barriers exist in the US or Great Britain, where auction houses have seen a boom in the trade in recent years.

From the article:
In February 2014 the same auction house sold a pair of Hitler inscribed “Mein Kampf” volumes dedicated to SS Officer Josef Bauer for $64,850 (€56,200).

But these numbers are dwarfed by sums paid for other pieces of Nazi memorabilia in recent years.

In 2011 Spiegel reported that the journals of notorious concentration camp doctor Josef Mengele during his exile in South American after the war were sold for €224,000.

Rare copy of Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' auctioned for 13K
NEW YORK: A rare, personally signed copy of German dictator Adolf Hitler's autobiography 'Mein Kampf' has been sold for USD 13,000 at an auction in the US.

The front flyleaf of the book is boldly inscribed and signed by Hitler as "Only in battle will the noble man survive! Adolf Hitler on 18/August 1930".

On the date he signed this book, Hitler was in Cologne in Germany giving a speech promoting the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) and its slate of candidates for the upcoming Sep 14 national elections, according to Alexander Historical Auctions in the US.

The book has a blue cloth covering with the gilt NSDAP emblem on it and gilt title on the spine. It was originally expected to sell for USD 20,000.

"Signed copies of "Mein Kampf" are difficult enough to obtain, copies with such a signed quote are only very rarely seen," the auction house said.
