Hobby White Whales

Post by djknightrida » February 28th, 2017, 11:17 am

We all have had top wants in this hobby but what happens when you repeatedly strike out when attempting to score these wants. They become the Moby Dick to your Ahab.

Curious to hear others stories of their white whales in this hobby. Greg gave an excellent example with his Dale Jr. attempts and eventually crossed Dale off his list.

My biggest whale is easily Richard Belzer. My first attempt at Belz was a book signing he was scheduled for in NJ. Wanted to beat the bad traffic I left in the early afternoon and arrived a few hours before the scheduled start time. I walked into the Barnes & Noble to see a lady in what appeared to be setting up a table with books for the event. Only she wasn't setting up. She was tearing it down as Belz had cancelled the signing in the time it took to drive there. :melopain: I was able to get a free signed book out of it but not the photo I desired.

My next failed attempt was an NYC trip with SVU set info. At this point Belz wasn't officially on the show but I knew he was back in the NYC area to film a small role. I decided to hit the set after an early failed attempt at NPH. I arrived easily before 11 to find filming was wrapped. Others scored Belz while I was being blown off by Neil. :melopain: :melopain:

The last one was merely just info on a show he would be doing that was cancelled a month or so after :lanza: gave me the info.

Sadly Belz is up there in years and spends a lot of time at his home in Europe so the likelihood of scoring that photo is marginal. :melopain: :melopain: :melopain:

Great thread.

I don't think I have one. That was without question Will Smith, but that has been taken care of. Goodman was another that I had bad luck on but I finally got something out of him. I will keep thinking if there is anyone else I have seen multiple times, but failed on.

Believe it or not...Sunny! I started this hobby in October of 2015 and have never had an opportunity to meet her. She's canceled every single convention appearance and I missed her signing at the Wrestling Universe a couple of years ago. For shame.

Jessica Alba and Sarah Michelle Gellar remain at the top for me. But also pained along with Lanza in completing the damn casts of Always Sunny and The League!
