Had a great experience last night and had to write up a report for my fellow collectors!

Attending premieres has been one of the best ways for me to obtain autographs, so when I heard there was a super-exclusive screening for Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, I had to attend. After asking multiple sources as to where it was being held, nobody knew but we all had information on the reception. After work my friend and I headed to the venue which was holding the reception and arrived early. I have been there before so I knew there would be no barricades, just simply walking through the front door. As we had time to kill we walked up a few blocks and wanted to see which official premiere was being held at one of NYC’s landmark theaters and it was Mandela, starring British star Idris Elba. As they were still setting it up, directly across the street was another event, the International Emmy Awards.

We spotted about 4 dealers at the entrance of the red carpet and decided to wait and see who we could snap photo ops with since we weren’t prepared for this event. On the carpet already was 006, Sean Bean who had signed for the dealers. Many of the arrivees were foreign actors whom I had no knowledge of, so I took a brief walk about 100 feet to see how the progress was at Mandela. As I did that I regretted my actions, for I heard the rep carpet announcer usher in JJ Abrams. I ran back and my friend laughed. I’m a big fan of the Spielberg protege and wanted a combo on a blank 8x10. He had just signed for the dealers which bummed me. Walking down the street I spotted Zachary Quinto and I called him for a photo but he was moving fast as he had somewhere to be. After came prized fighter, Wladimir Klitschko. He signed for the dealers and I let him be. After more foreign stars, I went back to Mandela. I waited there with 3 other fans and as I turn my head to see the Emmys behind, I spot funnyman Chris O’Dowd from Bridesmaids, This is 40, Thor etc. smoking a cigarette alone and approached him for a photo op. He was enthusiastic about it which was great. As I did that, the 3 fans ran over asking for photos as well and he engaged them in small talk as I walked back to the barricades.

My friend met up with me for a status report and as we spoke, I saw an enormous crowd of dealers across the street close to the Mandela red carpet. I grabbed my blank 8x10 and ran over and saw U2’s frontman, Bono! His bodyguards were throwing dealers back and I approached him and he said I can’t stop and I walked with him since he had a marker in his hand and he signed my blank. I was crossing back and the car that stopped for me had none other than Idris Elba in the front passenger seat. I waited and he came out and the dealers ran over. He signed quickly but I wasn’t able to get him which is disappointing since I’m a fan of his. Afterwards, my friend and I decided to walk back to the Wolf of Wall Street reception venue.

As we got there there was only one older guy who I’ve seen a few times before - he always goes for photo ops and never shuts up. The first car that pulled up was producer Brad Grey. He’s also produced The Departed etc. With only 3 of us there, I was pleased. Next came the legendary Marty Scorsese. My friend and I have gotten him before so we knew the car he uses. His security guy told us to wait until he escorted Mrs. Scorsese into the building and we politely waited. Once inside, Marty came up to us and signed our Wolf of Wall Street posters and took a photo op with the older guy. We also had Departed posters and I had my Boardwalk Empire poster but his publicist kept nudging him to go in so he only signed one each. Not too long after, I spot a car stop in the middle of the street and I knew right away it was Leonardo DiCaprio. He came out with his bodyguard and his bodyguard said, “on the way out guys” and we said okay. Leo was on his phone.

The crowd got slighty bigger with about 8 people and celebrities came pouring in. I gave my friend a blank and it left me with one left and as talented director Darren Aronofsky entered I was tempted to have him sign until I heard a girl say, “Keanu is on his way”. I thus held off. Aronofsky was followed by Bob Babalan, Kyra Sedgewick, Lorne Michaels, Soprano’s creator David Chase, Mandela director Justin Chadwick, some girls from TV’s Revenge. Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson arrived and the girls went crazy asking for photo ops and he denied them. The security at the door checked tickets to ensure guests were allowed to enter the reception and as I stood watching one guard I saw him telling a guy he needed to produce his ticket. I noticed it was Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Pitt who I needed on my poster, so I whipped out my 11x17 and approach him. He paused for a second and said sure and signed. Bruce Banner aka Mark Ruffalo came and my friend had him sign while I went for a photo op, which he was gracious about. I then spotted another member from Boardwalk Empire, Gretchen Mol, exiting a car. I already had her but I did not have the guy who stepped out of the car behind her - Steve Buscemi! I asked politely since he’s become harder to get and he said sure and signed my photo and my friends blank but denied all photo ops. Boardwalk Empire creator, Terance Winter, who also wrote the screenplay for Wolf of Wall Street arrived but I was too slow to get him. Then came Keanu! There was about 17 people total now and a handful of us approached him and he said on the way out. More celebrities arrived but I had no clue who they were but they took photos and signed for some of the other fans. Another Boardwalk Empire star, Vincent Piazza, arrived but I already had him so I didn’t bother. Michael Pitt however came outside to smoke 4x and I decided to ask to a photo op when he came out on his 3rd smoke. He held the door for some people and looked up at me and said okay quick and I snapped a shot. Causally walking down the street with food in his hands was the smooth operator, McLovin aka Christopher Mintz-Plasse. One of the fans chased him begging for a photo op.

When it was time to leave, the stars poured out. Keanu true to his word signed and took photo ops with all that asked him as he walked down the street. I didn’t want to walk alongside of him for fear of losing my spot for DiCaprio. As they brought Leo’s car to the front door, everyone got ready. He came out and the horde surrounded him. He grabbed my marker and signed my Wolf of Wall Street first and I backed out so that my poster wouldn’t get damaged in the fray. As he got into his car and drove down he caught a red light and my friend and I along with 2 other people went to his window. We asked if he could sign one each and he rolled down and said, “okay guys one each” and did just that and my friend and I got our Departed posters signed.

It was a long night but well worth it.

Earlier in the week my friend and I went to get Ethan Hawke. We arrived early and caught Jeff Goldblum and John Glover going in. I stood aside as my friend needed them and I didn’t. We had Training Day posters for Ethan and when he arrived he was on his cell phone. I motioned if he could sign and he head-nodded yes and signaled one minute and we waited for him to finish his call. He signed our posters and took a photo op with me.

Thanks! I'm right outside of the city so it doesn't take long to go in after I get off of work. I had actually asked class if you two were going but he said nope. Was a star-studded affair which I love and honestly didn't expect.

That aside, awesome report. It's nice to see reports from spots of that type from somebody besides me and Joresky.

Lol sorry bud! Keanu was really willing!

I always prefer events like this because you can rack some good autographs and photo ops!

Me and class live 3.5-4.5 hours away from NYC so we are not able to make it up as often and unfortunately this costs us many combos.. im so tempted to move to NYC but I have a decent job in Baltimore so I guess i'll just work down here and come to NYC as often as I can.. to anyone who lives in or close to NYC to meet celebs the sky is the limit

good stuff dude

i'm actually surprised jorsky doesnt try to find work in nyc...you can find a cheap apartment in a so-so neighbrohhod/ building if you share it with roommate(s)...and im sure you can find a comparable job...combos pretty much 24 hours a day for you if you lived in nyc- nights, weekends, lunch hour, time when youre not working, you can totally clean up..and when class comes into nyc, he wont have to sleep in his car!!!!HCIT!!!! :howcoolisthat: :howcoolisthat: :howcoolisthat: :howcoolisthat: :howcoolisthat:

I got Leo before on an Inception 8x10, but I wanted to start a poster and get it multi-signed so I traded the photo op with Keanu.
