Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Tom Bailey and more in DC/MD

Post by Joresky » July 25th, 2018, 12:09 pm

I attended some events over this past week where I got some pretty cool names. On Friday night I went to a free concert downtown featuring the music group TLC but unfortunately that was a bust. When I arrived at the show it was so packed I could barely move or even see the stage. I was so frustrated by this that I went to a second spot that my friend told me I was likely to see the band and after over an hour and a half of waiting I saw nobody so this night was officially a bust. My other buddy who stayed at the super crowded spot said one of the band members Chilli did a few selfies along the barricade near the stage but it was so crowded he couldn't get over to her. I have tried meeting bands at this same event in years past and have been successful but usually the bands that I'm successful with are rock bands (Mighty Mighty Bosstones last year) and not famous R&B acts. Oh well, win some lose some.

On Saturday night I attended a comedy/music show by Paul Venier. I had seen him before at this same venue but I was going just for fun because I enjoyed myself so much the last time and he is a really nice guy. I brought a couple friends with me and they both absolutely loved it. After the show I had him sign a printout of my photo op from last time and got another photo with him. We also hung out and chatted for a while which was really awesome. Paul is from New Jersey so if you get the chance to check out his act I highly recommend it. I've gotta thank my friend Andrew who is on here for turning me onto Paul.. Andrew you have great taste.

After the comedy show me and my buddy Troy went to Washington DC to join my other friend Francesco (hes the one who hooked me and Troy with this event so special thanks to him) to meet actors from the new movie Mission Impossible Fallout. We decided to arrive super super early to get a prime spot on the rails for this special event and it really paid off for us. I pretty much got only 1 hour of sleep and I got delirious at points throughout the day waiting so this wasn't the easiest but I feel that it was worth it. Greg, Lane (heelorton) and some other New York friends joined us for this event too which was awesome. About an hour before we were supposed to check in for the event the skies opened up and we were stuck waiting in torrential downpours. Luckily I wrapped my stuff to get signed in a plastic bag in another bag so none of my stuff got ruined but I had some wet socks which wasn't the most comfortable. The special fan pit at this event was originally supposed to be outside but it got moved indoors because of the weather. We checked in and were given wristbands, posters and free Mission Impossible Fallout hats which was cool. After we checked in they lined us up at a special area upstairs and had us wait for a long while before we were escorted by security to the fan pit downstairs. There was some confusion after we got inside between everyone and security.. it seemed like museum security wasn't sure why there was a line of people upstairs. After a long while security escorted us to the fan pit downstairs and the event officially started. The first celeb we saw was the director of Mission Impossible Fallout, Christopher McQuarrie. He walked over to the press area and started doing interviews. The next celeb we saw was Tom Cruise but he started doing interviews and didn't end up coming over to the fan barricade until close to the end of the event.

The first actor/actress that actually walked over to the fans was actress Michelle Monaghan who was a cool name I didn't have yet so this was a good start for me. She took a nice photo with me and signed my Mission Impossible Fallout poster that they gave me. The next name we got was actor Henry Caville who is famous for playing Superman/Clark Kent in the new DC movies. I already had a photo with him from Ace Comic Con this past winter but this was a different kind of pic because this time he was clean shaven and looked more like Superman. I'm still happy I got my original Henry Caville shot with facial hair because this is what he will look like in the new Mission Impossible Fallout movie. Henry signed my poster and two blu ray covers for me too which was awesome. Next I saw an actress who I thought was Amy O'Neill from Honey I Shrunk the Kids so we called her over for pics but it turns out it wasn't her when she came closer to us. She was nice and did pics anyway. I don't usually ask an actress her name but I did anyway.. she said her name is Francis Hasson and she is a British actress but I looked up the name and couldn't find anything. Maybe I misspelled or misheard what she told me. If anyone knows who she is please help me out. After this I got a photo with Mission Impossible Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie and he signed my poster as well. After this I scored a combo with actor Frederick Schmidt. I'm not familiar with his work but he has a role in the new Mission Impossible Fallout so i'm sure this is a good score.

Next I got a photo with Jake Myers and his wife Kea Myers. Jake is the producer of Mission Impossible Fallout and as far as I know his wife is not famous so not sure why she joined him in the pics but she did.. oh well. After this we got actor Simon Pegg who is a great actor. I have met him in the past but I was super happy to get him again because this photo was better in my opinion (new glasses) and he signed a few things for me (Mission Impossible poster and 2 Star Trek blu rays). After this we all got combos with the man of the hour, Tom Cruise. A lady came by before he took care of the fans and asked that we only ask for 1 autograph each. I had a bunch of stuff on me but didn't want to jeopardize my photo since that was mainly what I came for so I decided to limit myself to two autographs. When he came up to me I had him sign my Top Gun blu ray and the Mission Impossible poster which now has a good number of signatures on it. I got a fantastic photo (that his publicist took for me) and the autos came out great. Angela Bassett came out next and I got her to sign my poster but she was rushing so I wasn't able to score a photo but this was no biggie because I already had one from New York. Lastly actress Rebecca Ferguson came to us and she was being rushed so I quickly had her sign one of my blu rays and she took a quick selfie with me. Some others there weren't so lucky with her so I count my lucky stars that I was able to score the combo anyway. She my was my 2nd want of the event so I would have been upset if I hadn't gotten her. At this point the event was over and we were given passes to watch the movie in a close by movie theatre one week before it came out but I opted to go home instead because I was so tired. No biggie.. I'll watch the show next weekend when I am well rested and am able to enjoy it. I'm sure I will love it since I absolutely loved the last one. For some reason these movies get better and better. After this event I found out that I was seen in photos and videos on USA Today and other outlets so this was a cool bonus to being at this event.

On Tuesday night, I decided to try for 80s singer Tom Bailey (of The Thompson Twins) at a local music venue. It was raining a lot outside but luckily he was having a free meet n greet inside so me and some friends were able to go inside and meet him in a dry environment. I had nothing to get signed but I picked up his new CD from the merch table. When I got up to him he was super nice and posed for a nice photo and signed my CD no problem. His guy was limiting autographs to two per person so I got another item signed for a friend who ended up giving me a ride home. I was supposed to take a bus and light rail home but its a good thing I got the ride because it was pouring outside and I would have been drenched. Overall, I'm very pleased with eveything I scored this past week (aside from TLC) so I consider it a success.

That pic with Tom Cruise is really perfect. I'm not even a huge fan of his, but I'm jealous!

Great photo op with Tom, as others have pointed out!

Even the one where he's signing for you is great. His facial expression looks like you guys are in a personal, intense discussion.

Tom is one of the few celebrities who, when I first started autographs in 2000, has pretty much stayed true to his good signing habits.
In 2000, he almost always made the top 10 best in person signers list while it seems some guys have changed (Tom Hanks for one).
