Adam West, aka Batman, has passed away.

Post by Greg2600 » June 10th, 2017, 9:27 pm

Adam West, who of course portrayed Batman during the late 1960's on TV and film, followed by occasional animated appearances. He also voiced the Mayor on Family Guy. Adam died from leukemia at the ripe old age of 88.

I'm surprised more people are not in this discussion. Adam was a mainstay at conventions for years. He even did the world of wheels type shows years and years ago. Definitely and a legend and I'm glad the comic cons and Family Guy could give him more exposure.

If only to hear him utter "to the bat cave, Robin!" once more! This is one of my fav items in my collection (20x30 canvas print). Sadly I was not able to get Yvonne Craig bfor she passed away. May Batman and Batgirl continue to fight the dastardly villains in the afterlife! BAM! POW! SOCK!!

I'm still surprised more people didn't post. Adam was a mainstay at conventions. Years before conventions were even a big thing, he and Burt did the world of wheels style auto shows in the 80s. If someone didn't meet Adam, they just didn't try.

I think there isn't a larger outpouring because he always seemed to be very business, More Lou or Virgil, than someone super warm and fan friendly. Nothing against him and he was ok when I got him, but nothing particularly memorable or worth reminiscing about.

I figured the same thing. In fact, I posted in one of the Chuck Norris threads that Adam saw the fans as dollar signs, nothing more. Still, an icon and multi talented. I'm glad his career got a resurgence through the conventions and he's been introduced to younger audiences through Family Guy and DVDs etc...

There was a former employee of Monster Mania who trashed West. MM had to apologize on their FB page but the former staffer responded saying he felt no remorse and everyone who worked in the con circuit felt that way about West.

At West's last MM, I heard a staffer (no idea if it's the same guy who did the FB post) openly criticizing West among other staffers-who weren't exactly disagreeing. It's probably the only time I can remember seeing staffers at a con openly trashing a guest at a show the celeb was still at.

So yeah, West did have a negative reputation as a con guest, but ripping him in social media publicly the day the guy died was probably not the best way for the staffer to conduct himself. Even if 100% true, it's a totally low-class move.

Was he let go for the comment? Also, do you remember what the comments said?

It was a former staffer (although in his apology, Dave mentioned a former AND current staffer having both said something) that came on Dave's FB in the now-deleted apology thread and admitted to making the original comment. Thread's now deleted, but here was what the staffer said:

Wow. I get the guys passion but maybe a little too soon.
My favorite story is Todd, the guy who does the Hollywood Shows, was getting one of his friends Adam's autograph on a Mayor West Family Guy photo. Adam signed "Mayor West" only but didn't notice until he left the show. I think he was able to get it signed again the next day but Todd's friend was pissed until it got rectified. Or when he and Burt would do auto shows with "pre signed" photos and they would add the fans name, only for the fan to find out years later the autograph were pre-print. That's Adam and Burt. And you can think they're jerks or you can laugh it off and chalk it up to different personalities make the world go around.

West was often not that friendly in later years. His manager was a turd. Often couldn't be sure who was the bigger issue, West or that guy? All I can say was that when I finally broke down for combos from West and Ward at MM 2014, I had a very cordial interaction with both. I told Adam that he was great on Family Guy, and he gave me a nice handshake.
