The "I Can't Believe They Aren't Doing Cons" Thread

Post by Gumby » November 27th, 2016, 12:03 am

There are so many who would do well to excellent at conventions but, for whatever reason, they just aren't doing them (yet). Here is a thread where we can list/discuss those that we feel *should* be doing shows but just can't believe they aren't!

I'm revisiting the television series ALF and it's surprising that-with the exception of the late Michu- nobody from this show is doing conventions. Creator/star Paul Fusco is very protective of Ol' Gordon, but he and the rest of the cast would do pretty well I imagine.

Charlie Hunnam. I know he had a bad first con but he'd certainly make BANK if he did NYCC/RICC/Wizard Worlds.

On the wrestling side of things, Wade Barrett has yet to do a convention following his WWE release. He'd probably do really well.

There's so many wrestlers that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Cast of Family Matters is a good example, but Charlie Hunnam, I don't think, is a good one. He's a major name that shouldn't have to do any cons.

Hunnam's a major name, sure, but I don't think he's a mega star that wouldn't do cons (i.e. George Clooney or Tom Hanks). The cast of Sons of Anarchy seem to draw very well and he'd be a great headliner, would definitely be expensive but worth it. If he did a con every year or two, he'd have some awesome chump change.

The problem with Chiller is that Kevin (and family) no longer bring anyone in. At best they'll get them a free table, but have become very stingy on free hotel rooms. This requires one of the many independent bookers to get them in, whereas a con like Monster Mania can pay them to come, and set them up, like most any other con.

I see both sides on Hunnam. With some of the names who have done cons this past year, he's small by comparison. But even still, you need to view big current names doing conventions with surprise, not be surprised by the many who do not.

Speaking of SOA, I am surprised by Maggie Siff doing nothing. All she has is supporting part on an NYC based show, you would think she would be all over these cons.

I'm surprised people like Don Johnson and Tom Selleck haven't done a show yet. I'd suspect they'd rake it in.

They're both miserable POS's that's probably why. Burt Reynolds is a nice guy, so he was amenable to meeting fans.

Man, Selleck is a top 10 want of mine, but yeah, they both hate fan interaction. Don was nice when I got him, but that was a miracle. Tom, on top of disliking fans, is busy filming 22 episodes of Blue Bloods, so he's occupied enough sadly.

I'm shocked Maggie Siff has done nothing. A photo op w/her and Katy Segal or Hunnam would be awesome.

Has Kurt Sutter done many cons? Not panels but actually signing?

Wish Jason would do cons, but he too is said to be fairly gnarly with fans. Brendan Fraser would be another I'd love to see, given his career is dead, but also putrid with fans.

Sutter has done paid signings recently, all on the West Coast I believe, promoting his comic, and (I think) at least one Hollywood Show years back.

Has Katey Segal complete swore off conventions as a whole? I know she tweeted about how she wont take selfies.
